Memorial Day is this weekend, which means the start of the Summer season! While we break out our swimsuits and pour the rosé, we thought we would highlight some of the flowers that we look forward to seeing in the summer (even if the end of peony season breaks our hearts.)
Summer is hydrangea season, and we love being able to get big, fluffy blooms from Holland and the smaller limelight variety locally. They last so much longer in the vase than most of the South American varieties available the rest of the year, and come in some fabulous colors!
Dahlias come in so many different colors, shapes, and sizes and we love them all! From adorable pom pom and ball dahlias to giant dinner plate dahlias, these flowers are perfect for parties and very popular wedding flowers. Café au lait, a romantic blush dahlia, is actually our most requested bloom for weddings.
We look forward to seeing funny, fuzzy cockscombs every year. They look a little bit like fuzzy brains or coral, and we love using them for texture in our arrangements. Fun fact: cockscombs are actually in the amaranth family, although we don't recommend trying to eat them!
It doesn't get more summery than sunflowers! We love large sunflowers, mini sunflowers, bright yellow and coppery brown sunflowers. They come in too many varieties to mention here, and we're fans of them all.
As you can see, even though we have to say goodbye to peonies and tulips, there are plenty of flowers to look forward to this summer. Don't forget to check out MyFlorious.com this summer to see some of our favorites in action!
